Frequently asked questions
Everything most people want to know about pricing, GST features, AI, and billing. Have something we haven't covered? Drop us a line.
- 01
Do I need to be an accountant to use YourBill?
No. The default invoice form has three things to fill in: customer, item, and date. Everything else — invoice number, place of supply, the CGST/SGST/IGST split, HSN, the legal type of the invoice — is filled in for you. You only see advanced options if your business actually needs them.
- 02
What's CGST, SGST, and IGST? Do I need to know?
You don't. If your customer is in the same state as you, GST splits 50/50 into CGST (central) and SGST (state). If they're in a different state, it's IGST. We pick the right one automatically from the customer's GSTIN — and the invoice rounds the paise so it always adds up to your total.
- 03
What's HSN, and do I have to fill it?
HSN is a 4–8 digit code that classifies what you sell. The GST law requires it on every line item — 6 digits if your turnover is above ₹5 crore, 4 digits otherwise. When you create a new product, type its name and we'll suggest the HSN and GST rate from the CBIC list. You can always edit before saving.
- 04
What's the difference between a Tax Invoice and a Bill of Supply?
Regular GST-registered businesses issue Tax Invoices (with CGST/SGST/IGST shown). Composition-scheme dealers and businesses selling exempt goods issue Bills of Supply — no tax columns at all. We default each business to the right one based on your GST regime in profile, so you don't have to think about it.

How does the first 30 days free work?
When you sign up, your account is provisioned on the Starter plan with a 30-day free period — no card required at signup. After 30 days, complete a one-time PayU SI Hub mandate (UPI AutoPay, card, or netbanking emandate) and ₹49/month is billed automatically. If you don't pay, the account becomes read-only — your data stays intact, you just can't create new invoices till you renew.
- 06
Can I get a refund?
Because every plan is month-to-month with the first 30 days free, no refunds are issued. You're effectively trying the product risk-free for a full month before any money changes hands. After that, you can cancel any time from Dashboard → Billing and your access continues till the end of the current paid cycle — no further charges.
- 07
How long does it take to send my first invoice?
Two minutes is the design target. Sign up, complete the two-step onboarding wizard (GSTIN with auto-fill, then your invoice number format), and you land on the dashboard ready to issue the first one. Bank account, UPI ID, logo, and signature are optional — add them later when you actually need them.
- 08
Why is my GSTIN locked to one account?
Each GSTIN can be registered with only one YourBill account. This prevents the same legal entity from creating multiple accounts to repeatedly claim the 30-day free period. If you genuinely need multiple businesses on YourBill, each must have a distinct GSTIN — which is also how GST law treats them.
- 09
Is the GSTR-1 JSON I download actually accepted by the GSTN portal?
Yes. The file passes the GSTN Returns Offline Tool v3.0+ validator with zero errors. You import it under Returns → GSTR-1 → Prepare Offline.
- 10
How is your pricing this low? What's the catch?
No catch. We're playing the long game on customer acquisition. Most invoicing SaaS in India charges ₹500–₹2,000/month and locks features behind annual upgrades; we'd rather have ten thousand happy ₹199/month customers than two hundred reluctant ₹999/month ones.
- 11
Are there per-invoice fees or transaction fees?
No. Each tier has a flat monthly invoice cap (10 / 75 / 200 / 500). You don't pay per invoice, per customer, or per export.
- 12
How does the AI work? Do I need an OpenAI API key?
No, you don't. AI features are bundled — we run them through our own OpenAI integration with a generous 50-call/day quota per business. You can disable them globally in Settings if you prefer.
- 13
What happens if I cancel?
Your subscription stays active till the end of the current paid cycle. After that the account is locked in read-only mode — your data stays intact, you just can't create new invoices, customers, or products till you renew.
- 14
Can I file my GSTR-1 without leaving YourBill?
We don't yet auto-file (the GSTN API requires DSC / EVC each time), but you can generate a portal-ready JSON in one click and upload it. Direct API filing is on the roadmap once GSTN's auth flow stabilises for SaaS providers.
- 15
Do you support e-invoicing (IRN)?
Not yet — but it doesn't apply to most YourBill customers. E-invoicing (Last verified April 2026) is mandatory only for businesses with aggregate turnover above ₹5 Cr per Notification 10/2023-CT, in force since 1 Aug 2023. The schema is ready in our data model so we can switch on direct NIC IRP submission as we approach that segment. If you cross ₹5 Cr we'll flag it in your dashboard 60 days before the threshold.
- 16
How does the AI HSN finder work?
From the dashboard sidebar, open Tools → HSN finder. Type a product or service name and the tool suggests a likely HSN/SAC code along with the GST rate, plus a confidence score. The same suggestion also pre-fills HSN and rate when you create a new product. Suggestions are AI-generated hints against the CBIC rate list, not authority — always cross-check with the official CBIC notification before filing your return.
- 17
What's included in each plan?
Every paid tier includes the same core feature set — GST-compliant invoicing, GSTR-1 JSON export, AI features, mobile apps, GSTIN auto-fill. The plans only differ on monthly invoice cap (10 / 75 / 200 / 500) and the count of customers/products you can hold. See the full breakdown on the pricing page.
- 18
Can I export my data if I leave?
Yes. Every invoice is downloadable as a signed PDF, your full ledger exports to Excel, and you can pull GSTR-1 JSON for any past period. We will never hold your data hostage — it's your tax record by law.
- 19
Does the Android app do everything the web app does?
The Android app covers the daily flows: create invoice, record payment, manage customers and products, download PDFs, and view GSTR-1 export status. A few admin surfaces — bulk operations, profile-level settings, and the full report page — are still web-only. We recommend using the app for day-to-day billing and the web for month-end work.
- 20
What happens to my data if I cancel?
Your data stays with us — Indian tax law (Section 36 of the CGST Act read with Rule 56) requires invoicing records to be retained for 8 financial years, and we honour that. After cancellation the account is read-only: you can log in, view, and export, but you can't create new records until you renew. You can also request a full data delete after the statutory retention window expires.
